The Apple Cider Vinegar Diet is a diet, while being called a fad diet, has existed since well into the early part of the 19th century, when Lord Byron popularized the use of the ‘diet miracle’. Even Hippocrates was known to use it as a health tonic, and American soldiers used it to beat indigestion, pneumonia and scurvy.

The concept of the diet is essentially based on the premise of ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’; however, rather than an apple, it is Apple Cider Vinegar, which is also called cider vinegar and acetic acid.

Apple cider vinegar is made from the vinegar that is a byproduct of the fermentation of apple cider. During the process, apple cider is broken down into alcohol and vinegar. The vinegar contains acetic acid, some lactic acid, as well as citric acid.

How to Stack and Season Apple Wood For Wood Stoves

Apple wood is a excellent wood burning fuel. It is considered a hardwood which means it is heavy and will burn for a longer period of time than softwoods. However, if your apple wood is not seasoned, then it will be very difficult to burn it properly.

We have had great success with seasoning apple wood because our summers are high heat and low humidity. Seasoning apple wood does not take a rocket scientist to figure out. Simply cut your wood stack it or throw it in piles and let it dry or cure for at least a year or more.

However, if you want to season your wood slower, do not be afraid to run a sprinkler over the top of it during the summer. By sprinkling the wood it will also help control bugs that can damage your wood.

Apple wood is susceptible to these little bore mites that drill small holes in the wood. Your wood will still burn well, but you need to watch your stack closely so they don’t overrun it. I would highly recommend burning this wood as soon as you have seasoned it. Apple wood can be difficult to stack because it has many different shapes and it not uniform. However, as you begin to stack your wood, you will quickly be able to fill in holes with various other smaller pieces. We use a lot of 4 foot pipe to help us keep our wood stacks from falling over.

Wood burners who live in a city or town should place their wood in an area that will not receive water from your yard sprinklers. The wood that does get wet can take 2 or more years to completely dry if you continue to water it. As for keeping your wood covered, that is a personal preference. My folks cover their wood and we do not. The benefits of covering your wood during the winter months is that you can season your wood quicker, but out west with our dry summers that is not a big problem.

If you are consistent with wood cutting and every year you cut more wood than you need, it will not take long to have a 3 year reserve of wood. That means if during one cutting season you are injured and cannot cut, you will not have to worry about cutting because you have a reserve.

Those of you who want to purchase apple wood can do so but make sure you get what you pay for. A lot of places will charge around a $100 for a cord of wood that is all limbs. These little limbs burn well, but they can never be relied upon to burn all night leaving you, fire starting coals in the morning.

Vegan Apple Dessert Recipes

Spicy Apple Crisp


6 to 8 cooking apples

5 ozor 150 g flour

12 oz or 350 g brown sugar

6 oz or 175 g vegan butter

¼ tsp ground cinnamon

¼ tsp ground nutmeg

Zest of one lemon

1 tbsp fresh lemon juice


Peel, quarter and core cooking apples.

Cut apple quarters into thin slices and place it in a bowl.

Blend nutmeg and cinnamon then sprinkle over apples.

Sprinkle with lemon rind.

Add lemon juice and toss to blend.

Arrange slices in a large baking dish.

Make a mixture of sugar, flour and vegan butter in a mixing bowl then put over apples, smoothing it over.

Place the dish in the oven. If dish is very full, put a pan under the dish to catch spills.

Bake at 370°F, 190°C or gas mark 5 for 60 minutes, until browned and apples are tender.


Apple Cake


2 oz or 50 g flour

3 tsp baking powder

½ tp salt

2 tbsp vegan shortening

¼ pint or 125 ml unsweetened soya milk

4 or 5 apples

4 oz or 110 g sugar

1 tsp cinnamon


Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.

Add shortening and rub in very lightly.

Add milk slowly to make soft dough and mix.

Place on floured board and roll out ½ inch or 1 cm thick.

Put into shallow greased pan.

Wash, pare, core and cut apples into sections; press them into dough.

Sprinkle with sugar and dust with cinnamon.

Bake at 375°F, 190°C or gas mark 5 for 30 minutes or until apples are tender and brown.

Serve with soya cream.


Apple Charlotte


2 lbs or 900 g good cooking apples

2 oz or 50 g almonds (chopped)

4 oz or 50 g currants and sultanas mixed

1 stick cinnamon (about 3 inches or 7 cm long)

Juice of ½ a lemon

Wholemeal bread (cut very thinly) spread with vegan butter

Sugar to taste.


Pare, core, and cut up the apples.

Stew the apples with a teacupful of water and the cinnamon, until the apples have become a pulp.

Remove the cinnamon, and add sugar, lemon juice, the almonds, and the currants and sultanas (previously picked, washed, and dried).

Mix all well and allow the mixture to cool.

Grease a pie-dish and line it with thin slices of bread and butter,

Then place on it a layer of apple mixture, repeat the layers, finishing with slices of bread and vegan butter.

Bake at 375°F, 190°C or gas mark 5 for 45 minutes.

Apples in American Culture – Why, Apples are as Amercian as Apple Pie!

Here in the United States, though, we have many traditional fruits. Of course, perhaps the most popular and most traditional fruit that we grow is the apple. In fact, apples are such traditional fruits that they have become ingrained in our culture.

Take a look at some of the ways in which apples have moved off the tree and into our language, games, and stories:

It is a very common in our culture for someone to say, “That is like comparing apples and oranges,” Meaning that you are trying to compare two things that are incomparable.

Apples have even made it into our folklore: most kids know the story of Johnny Appleseed, the boy who traveled across the United States with an upside down pot on his head, dispersing apple seeds.

And everyone knows that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Although this proverb has some merit, most still just pass it off as an old wive’s tale. An apple a day will not keep the doctor away if you do not also eat right, exercise, and refrain from excesses such as smoking and drinking a lot!

A phrase that really shows how apples have become a major part of our society is, “that is as American as apple pie!” Apples are completely ingrained in our culture, and apple pies are an American icon, reminiscent the “happy” years in the United States.

A rotten or bad apple is not just a piece of bad fruit. This idiom describes the one “bad” or “rotten” person in a group.

Other popular phrases that we often use in our culture are: “the apple of my eye” and “how do you like them apples!”

As you can see, there are many ways in which apples are fully ingrained into our culture. In fact, it is likely that no other fruit is nearly as important to our American culture as the apple is.

The apple is truly a traditional fruit in the United States, and it is a fruit that seems to have many traditions associated with it.

For instance, “bobbing for apples.” This is a game that is especially popular around the autumn months and Halloween. In this game, a large bucket or cauldron is filled with water, and apples are place in it to float. Participants must bob for the apples, trying to catch one in their teeth, without using their hands.

If, though, you take a look at another culture, a culture in another region of the world, they will likely have far different traditional fruits. And along with their different traditional fruits, they will likely have different idioms, stories, and games based on those fruits, wound into their culture.

  • 1/2 cup Olive oil mayonnaise

  1. Cut your chicken leftover into cubes, place in bowl.
  2. Add chopped celery and apple. Lightly mix.
  3. Add 1/2 cup of mayonnaise in parts to your liking. Mix.
  4. Salt & pepper to taste.
  5. Chill.
  6. Place a small amount of shredded carrots in the bottom of pita.
  7. Next, gently add baby spinach leaves to one side.
  8. Add 1/4 cup of chicken salad.
  9. Place cucumber slices on the opposite side.
  10. Garnish with fresh Parmesan

For variations, add grapes, sliced walnuts or almonds, and boiled egg whites. Also, you can serve the salad on lettuce leaves or in a wrap.

Apple Symbolism and Legends

Apple blossoms are ideal symbols of love, youth, beauty and happiness. The apple blossom is the state flower for Arkansas, once a top apple-producing state in the United States. Apple blossoms are pink and white with leaves of medium green.

In his mid-twenties, Johnny began his journey westward with an eye for providing settlers with apple trees and saplings.

There was a law at the time that required settlers to plant 50 apple trees in their first year on newly acquired land. This law was aimed at preventing starvation among the settlers. Although Johnny wandered far and wide planting trees, he also owned and leased considerable areas of land for his apple orchards.

Johnny was a devout Christian who was influenced by the ideas of Emmanuel Swedenborg. Swedenborg valued love and joy above all other virtues. Compared to many of the repressive philosophies then in vogue, his approach to the spiritual life was basically a breath of fresh air for the settlers with whom Johnny shared his religious tracts and Biblical interpretations.

Johnny Appleseed spent nearly 50 years traversing the wilderness planting apple trees and tending to his own orchards. Johnny dreamed of a landscape beautified by apple blossoms and a country where no one would go hungry. Johnny is reported to have believed that apples are among “the finest things on earth.”

There are quite a number of natural home remedies available. Among one of them is apple cider vinegar. You probably would have read quite a number of articles about using apple cider vinegar as a cure for adult acne. Does this really work? How true is it? Hope this article can dispel some misconceptions about this natural home remedy if there is any.

· When you are applying ACV, it is best to start out with the weakest combinations of four parts of water to it. If you are comfortable with it, then work up to stronger mixtures. That means reducing the amount of water.

· Tingling sensations are pretty normal while using ACV, but if you start experiencing some burning sensations, rinse it off immediately with cold water.

Rounding It Up and My Conclusion

Everything about apple cider vinegar has been pretty positive except for the astringency of the vinegar which you must take caution of when applying it on your face. I would recommend starting with a lower dosage of it and then moderate it to higher strength as you keep adapting to the topical solution.

It’s normal to feel any tingling sensation as it is an indication that it’s working. However if you start experiencing any burning effects then wash it off immediately and lower the strength of ACV. For better results, use a water-based skin moisturizer to apply on your skin after each ACV treatment. This is to prevent your skin from getting too dehydrated due to the astringent characteristics of ACV.

I would like to point out that even though apple cider vinegar can remove some surface bacteria on the skin, it is not a long-term solution that can truly attack acne at its root. There are just about many causes of acne and bacteria are one of them.

It’s more or less suitable for those who have mild to moderate acne and could see results in just a couple of weeks. For severe cases, it could really take a long time to heal it.
